This work explores the physical and emotional landscape of a long distance queer relationship. Long distance dynamics are particularly common within the queer community due to factors like smaller communities within rural areas and an ever-increasing digital connection through social media and other apps.
My partner and I, at one point, lived 229 miles apart. Upon one return trip from a visit in Austin, I found myself returning back to DFW later than anticipated. I began documenting the various sights along the highway and in my car to represent the vast distance, longing, and undulating rhythm of “highway hypnosis” that comes with being in a long distance relationship.
